Sorcerers Sweep Prep Honors
Sorcerer players and students swept a host of national, state and regional awards for their play during the 2009 high school season.
Keilani Ricketts led the haul of hardware by being named national high school player of the year by both EA Sports and ESPN Rise. Ricketts pitched and hit her Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) team to the mythical national championship. The Monarchs finished with a 32-0 record. Keilani was 22-0 in the circle with a 0.10 ERA and 347 strikeouts. She hit .456 with nine home runs and a .975 slugging percentage. She also was selected as an All-American and state player of the year by several publications.
Emily Allard of Antioch's Deer Valley H.S. hit .513 with seven triples and was 25-for-25 in stolen base attempts. An outfielder/infielder in 18 Gold softball, Allard was needed to pitch in high school, striking out 604 batters and compiling an .094 ERA over her prep career. Emily was a two-time Under Armour All-American performer and an all-state selection by several media outlets.
She was selected by Cal-Hi Sports as the state's Division I female athlete of the year, an honor won by Ricketts in the Division II school enrollment classification.
Other Sorcerers selected All-State by ESPN included infielder Katie Keller (Livermore); infielder Breana Kostreba (Aptos); pitcher Molly Medeiros, (Presentation, San Jose); catcher Alyssa Tiumalu (Pleasant Grove, Elk Grove); infielder Jordan Wallace (Fairfield); and outfielder Kayla White (Piedmont Hills, San Jose). Pitcher Sammy Albanese (Castilleja School, Palo Alto) was named to the EA Sports All-State team.
