Wizard's Whispers  (Hot!)

Arioto Named to National Team; Camuso Returns to Bruins; and Frosh Duo Win Early Collegiate Honors

Former Sorcerer star, former academy pitching instructor and Cal Bear stalwart Valerie Arioto was selected as a member of the 2010 USA national team, after having won a gold medal for the American squad in last summer's Japan Cup.

She also was recently named to this year's 50-player watch list for national collegiate player of the year and was selected by ESPN Rise as a member of the mythical 2000's national all-decade high school team.

Arioto has been an all-around standout for Cal, winning All-Pac 10 and All-Pacific Region honors in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns, seasons in which she also received All-American recognition. This season she leads the Bears in homers, slugging percentage and OBP and is their ace in the circle with a 14-5 mark and a 1.03 ERA.

Former Sorcerer Sammy Camuso, who led UCLA in hitting at .366 two seasons ago as a freshman, has recovered from shoulder surgery that forced her to sit out the 2009 campaign.

And Camuso, as always, is stroking the ball.  In early April she was hitting .360 with a .652 slugging percentage for the Bruins.

As a frosh performer, Sammy received second team All Pac-10 and second team All-Pacific Region recognition and was a a Top 25 Finalist for the USA Softball National Player of the Year Award.

Former Sorcerer hurler, national high school player of the year, and current Oklahoma Sooner freshman Keilani Ricketts was named Big-12 pitcher of the week in late February and national player of the week for the same period. Ricketts currently paces the nationally-ranked Sooners with an 18-7 record and .144 ERA.

Former Sorcerer and two-time high school All-American outfielder Emily Allard got her collegiate career off to a big start by being named Big 10 player of the week in late March. Emily, who has switched to shortstop this season for the Wildcats, in early April was hitting a team-leading .361 from her lead-off spot, and led the 'Cats in hits with 35. She had swiped 20 bases in 21 attempts.

In all, 57 former Sorcerer players and students are competing this season in Division 1 collegiate programs across the nation.
